You can comfortably find parking outside the walls. Alternatively, you can arrive by train and after a pleasant short walk through the splendid historical center of Lucca you’ll arrive in piazza del Giglio (adjacent to piazza Napoleone) where the theatre of the same name (and the restaurant) is located. You can sit in a beautiful bright room, or at one of the two tables in the entrance hall, or even outdoors. All managed by the young, kind and always present never intrusive staff. We opted for the ‘basic’ six-course tasting menu (Peanut and radish/Burnt onion broth/Sardinian cannoli in soar and marjoram/Furikake crackers | Toasted brioche bread, tuna ceviche and tartar sauce | Buckwheat tart, oysters, roasted lettuce in vinegar and pistachio | Veal sweetbread with green pepper and sorrel pesto | Risotto with ginger, cocoa and capers| Chicken breast with peppers/ thigh, wings and skin salad/ Liver pate with eel and raspberry/ Cardoncelli | oat crumble, yogurt mousse and frozen pomegranate | Île flottante, mango cream and salted caramel). An original aspect is that the tasting menu includes almost exclusive dishes. In other words, these dishes are not present if you decide to order directly from the menu. The cuisine is solid, well thought out. Even more importantly what you’ll remember is the excellent gastronomic experience rather than how much you spent (more than reasonable: 70 euro for the less complex tasting menu; 100 euros for the more articulated path). The wine list is varied and well thought out. Noteworthy is the homemade bread, we were served half a loaf of excellent quality bread that we very greedily finished in the blink of an eye.
