La Grotta di Zì Concetta is a typical Molisana tavern, close to the historical center of Campobasso. The environment is rustic with bare stones exposed on the walls, a sink and a fireplace remind you of the tradition of the structure, of the hospitality, that is definitely shown in the dishes.
Their menu offers typical homemade Molisana dishes knowledgeably produced using, above all, local products with availability in respect to the season.
There are only a few first courses available, but they are cooked with a simplicity which makes you appreciate the excellent raw ingredients used.
Not to be missed are the “palotte cacio e uova”, a dish which belongs to the popular tradition, made with “salvaged” ingredients, polpette made from slightly stale bread, cheese and obviously eggs to amalgamate everything, fried in oil and sautéd in a pan with a sauce made from fresh tomatoes and basil. These recipes go back to the times of our grandparents, when wheat flour was a luxury for the few, and in the kitchens, they cooked the granone pizza in a bowl on embers, which in this case pairs very well with the grilled sausage and fried peppers, or you can crumble it into a wild vegetable soup to taste the “pizz e minestra”. For those who are Molisani it is a familiar place, for those of you who would like to discover the Molisani flavors it is a stopover that you should not miss out on.
