Gran Galà della Cucina Italiana by 50 Top Italy: the 50 Best Italian Restaurants in the World for 2024 have been revealed and the highly anticipated Special Awards have been conferred.
Il Carpaccio in Paris is the Best Italian Restaurant in the World for 2024
Also on the podium in second place is Gucci Osteria Tokyo; in third position is Don Alfonso in Toronto.
At the top of the various categories for 2024 are: Trattoria da Burde in Florence which is in first place for the Trattorie/Bistrò Moderni (Trattoria/Modern Bistro) category; Zia Restaurant which is number one for Cucina d’Autore (Gourmet Cuisine); Osteria Francescana in Modena is first in the Grandi Ristoranti (Great Restaurants) category; and Villa Crespi in Orta San Giulio, which is first in the Luxury category.
Another great success for the event Gran Galà della Cucina Italiana “Gran Gala of Italian Cuisine” by 50 Top Italy which, on the evening of December 12th, once again celebrated all of the hard work involved in creating its annual online guide. It provides invaluable information regarding the best of the Made in Italy brand, both within and outside of the national borders.
The event included the highly anticipated awards ceremony on the stage of Teatro San Babila recognizing the 50 Best Italian Restaurants in the World for 2024. It also saw the conferral of the Special Awards by 50 Top Italy 2024. During the evening the Top Ten in each of the Italian rankings were also recognized: Trattorie/Bistrò Moderni 2024 (Trattorias/Modern Bistros 2024), Cucina d’Autore 2024 (Gourmet Cuisine 2024), Grandi Ristoranti 2024 (Great Restaurants 2024) and Luxury 2024.
It was Il Carpaccio, an outpost for Italian cuisine beyond the Alps under the direction of Oliver Piras and Alessandra Del Favero, that captured the top spot on the podium as the Best Italian Restaurant in the World for the 2024 edition of the guide. In second position is Gucci Osteria Tokyo, a venue owned by chef Antonio Iacoviello, who capably executes his vision and definition of contemporary Italian cuisine. In third place in the ranking is a restaurant owned and operated by the Iaccarino family: the Don Alfonso restaurant in Toronto, Canada with chef Davide Ciavattella. In fourth position this year is Da Vittorio Shanghai in China, the first restaurant by the Cerea family opened outside of Europe which is guided by the executive chef Stefano Bacchelli. Following them in fifth position is Il Ristorante – Luca Fantin in Tokyo, owned by Luca Fantin, while in sixth position is Fiola in Washington DC, owned by Fabio Trabocchi. In seventh place the ranking has another American venue, this time in New York with the Rezdôra owned by Stefano Secchi. For eighth place, instead, we travel to Marrakesh in Morocco for the restaurant Sesamo, which is owned by the Alajmo family and led by Vania Ghedini. Closing the Top 10 we have Il Lago in Geneva in ninth position, which is under the direction of Massimiliano Sena and, recapturing its spot in the 10th slot this year, is Buona Terra in Singapore, owned Denis Lucchi.
The stage was then occupied by the winners of the special awards for the best Italian restaurants in Italy and around the world: the Novità dell’Anno 2024 – Solania Award (Novelty of the Year 2024 – Solania Award) was given to Evviva Maria in Conversano (BA) for Italy, while Art di Daniele Sperindio in Singapore was given the Novità dell’Anno 2024 – Solania Award (Novelty of the Year 2024 – Solania Award) for the overseas category.
Riccardo Monco and Alessandro Della Tommasina at Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence received the Chef dell’Anno 2024 – Ferrarelle Award (Chef of the Year 2024 – Ferrarelle Award) for Italy, while Vania Ghedini at the Sesamo restaurant in Marrakesh took home the Chef dell’Anno 2024 – Ferrarelle Award (Chef of the Year 2024 – Ferrarelle Award) for overseas.
The Pranzo dell’Anno 2024 – Pastificio dei Campi Award (Lunch of the Year 2024 – Pastificio dei Campi Award) was captured in Italy by Villa Crespi in Orta San Giulio (NO), while overseas it went to Il Ristorante – Luca Fantin in Tokyo.
The Italian Manager dell’Anno 2024 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award (Manager of the Year 2024 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award) went to Raffaele Mellino at Quattro Passi in Massa Lubrense (NA); for the overseas category, the Manager dell’Anno 2024 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award (Manager of the Year 2024 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award) belongs to Fabio Trabocchi at Fiola in Washington DC. The Giovane Chef dell’Anno 2024 – D’Amico Award (Young Chef of the Year 2024 – D’Amico Award) went to Francesca Barone at the Fattoria delle Torri in Modica, while Casa Cuomo by Salvatore Cuomo in Jakarta was honored with the Icon 2024 – D’Amico Award.
The Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte in Viareggio received the Migliore Prima Colazione 2024 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award (Best Breakfast 2024 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award) for Italy, while the overseas counterpart is the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva in Geneva.
The Piatto dell’Anno 2024 – Latteria Sorrentina Award (Dish of the Year 2024 – Latteria Sorrentina Award) for Italy is Fusilli, peperone e tartufo bianco which you can enjoy at Condividere in Turin. The same award went to the Pacchero ai 7 pomodori at Gucci Osteria Tokyo for the overseas category. Jessica Rocchi at Andrea Aprea in Milan received the Sommelier dell’Anno 2024 – Asti DOCG Award (Sommelier of the Year 2024 – Asti DOCG Award), while the Migliore Carta dei Vini 2024 – Asti DOCG Award (Best Wine List 2024 – Asti DOCG Award) went to Da Vittorio Shanghai.
Rudy Travagli at the Enoteca La Torre in Rome was recognized as the Maître dell’Anno 2024 – Goeldlin Award (Maître D’ of the Year 2024 – Goeldlin Award) for Italy, as was Clara Del Corso Martena at Clara in Bangkok, for the foreign category. The Pasticceria nella Ristorazione 2024 – Mulino Caputo Award (Restaurant Pastries 2024 – Mulino Caputo Award) for Italy went to Palazzo Petrucci in Naples, while overseas this award was conferred on La Table d’Antonio Salvatore in Montecarlo. Finally, the Made in Italy 2024 – Mammafiore Award went to Rezdôra in New York, and the Tradizione Regionale Italiana Award (Italian Regional Tradition Award) was given to Nabucco in Milan.
As in 2023, during the course of the splendid evening the top ten venues were recognized in the following categories:

Luxury 2024: in first place Relais & Chateaux Villa Crespi with Villa Crespi in Orta San Giulio; in second place Quattro Passi with the restaurant Quattro Passi in Massa Lubrense; third place Grand Hotel a Villa Feltrinelli with Villa Feltrinelli in Gargnano; fourth place Rome Cavalieri – A Waldorf Astoria Hotel with the restaurant La Pergola in Rome; fifth place Hotel Hassler Roma with Imàgo, in Rome; sixth place Brunelleschi Hotel with the restaurant Santa Elisabetta in Florence; seventh place La Dimora with the restaurant Da Vittorio in Brusaporto; eighth place Casa Maria Luigia with the restaurants Francescana at Maria Luigia and Al Gatto Verde in Modena; ninth place Grand Hotel Parker’s with the George Restaurant in Naples; and in tenth place Mandarin Oriental Milan with the restaurant Seta by Antonio Guida in Milan.

Moi in Prato for the Il Miglior Sushi 2024 – Asti DOCG Award (Best Sushi 2024 – Asti DOCG Award); Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina in Rome took home La Migliore Cacio e Pepe 2024 – Ferrarelle Award (Best Cacio e Pepe 2024 – Ferrarelle Award); Da Gigione Gourmand in Pomigliano d’Arco was recognized with the Il Miglior Panino 2024 – Mulino Caputo Award (Best Panini 2024 – Mulino Caputo Award); Punto Nave in Monterusciello took home the Il Miglior Ristorante di Pesce 2024 – Latteria Sorrentina Award (Best Seafood Restaurant 2024 – Latteria Sorrentina Award); Scirocco in Catania received the Il Migliore Street Food 2024 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award (Best Street Food 2024 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award); and Altatto in Milan captured the Il Miglior Bistrò Vegetale 2024 – D’Amico Award (Best Plant-Based Bistro 2024 – D’Amico Award).
Finally, the Creatività 2024 (Creativity 2024) award was conferred upon Franco Salvatore and Andrea Zazzara from the restaurant 28 Posti in Milan as the winners of the Primo Piatto dei Campi 2024 contest.
Following the awards ceremony the guests gathered for a toast at the NYX Hotel Milan in Piazza IV Novembre.
