50 Top Italy 2025: The Best Italian Restaurant in the World

On the podium are Il Carpaccio in Paris and DaNico in Toronto

 

The Ristorante Hotel Cipriani in Rio de Janeiro, led by Chef Nello Cassese and located within the similarly named establishment, has been crowned Best Italian Restaurant in the World by the 50 Top Italy 2025” guide, which highlights the best of Italian dining both within and beyond national borders. In second place are Alessandra Del Favero and Oliver Piras of Il Carpaccio in Paris, inside Le Royal Monceau. Third place goes to DaNico in Toronto, helmed by Chef Daniele Corona.

Italian cuisine, which is on the verge of being recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, honored its top interpreters during the Gran Galà della Cucina Italiana for 50 Top Italy 2025 at Milan’s Teatro San Babila.

In fourth position is Da Vittorio Shanghai from the Cerea family; fifth is Rezdôra in New York, headed by Chef/Owner Stefano Secchi. Sixth place takes us to Washington DC, for Fiola, with Chef/Owner Fabio Trabocchi. Seventh place goes to Torno Subito in Singapore, led by Chef Alessio Pirozzi; eighth to Hémicycle in Paris, with Flavio Lucarini and Aurorella Storari; in ninth position is Buona Terra in Singapore, with Chef Denis Lucchi. Rounding out the top ten is Don Alfonso in Toronto, led by Chef Davide Ciavattella.

The countries most represented are the United States and France with 7 establishments each, followed by Switzerland with 5 and Canada with 4.

Eleven special awards were bestowed for the Best of Dining inside and outside the Bel Paese (Italy):

The Pranzo dell’Anno 2025 – Pastificio dei Campi Award (Lunch of the Year 2025 – Pastificio dei Campi Award) went to Al Gatto Verde, run by Lara Gilmore and Massimo Bottura in Modena, at Casa Maria Luigia, with Chef Jessica Rosval at the helm. The Chef dell’Anno 2025 – Ferrarelle Award (Chef of the Year 2025 – Ferrarelle Award) went to Daniele Corona of DaNico in Toronto. The Piatto dell’Anno 2025 – Latteria Sorrentina Award (Dish of the Year 2025 – Latteria Sorrentina Award) went to the Mezzo Pacchero alla Marinara by Chef Maicol Izzo of Piazzetta Milù in Castellammare di Stabia. The Manager dell’Anno 2025 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award (Manager of the Year 2025 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award) went to Ermanno Zanini of Jumeirah Capri Palace in Capri. The Performance dell’Anno 2025 – D’Amico Award (Performance of the Year 2025 – D’Amico Award) went to the Ristorante Hotel Cipriani in Rio de Janeiro. The Pasticceria nella Ristorazione 2025Mulino Caputo Award (Pastry in Dining 2025 – Mulino Caputo Award) went to Hémicycle in Paris. The Novità dell’Anno 2025 – Solania Award (New Entry of the Year 2025 – Solania Award) went to Pollini at Ladbroke Hall in London. The Maître dell’Anno 2025 – Goeldlin Award (Maître of the Year 2025 – Goeldlin Award) went to Anna Caretti of Antica Osteria del Mirasole in San Giovanni in Persiceto. The Made in Italy 2025Mammafiore Award went to Il Bocconcino by Royal Hideaway in Costa Adeje, Spain. The I Migliori Aperitivi 2025 award (The Best Aperitifs 2025 Award) went to Baessato in Padua. Finally, the Migliore Prima Colazione 2025 – Cremoso – La Dispensa Award (Best Breakfast 2025 – Cremoso – La Dispensa Award) went to the Excelsior Hotel Gallia in Milan.

“Our goal,” as stated by the three curators of the guide, Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere, “is to create a great community of Italian cuisine, both inside and outside the national borders. Italian cuisine is increasingly a reference point for tables all around the world, at any latitude, thanks to many extraordinary artisans and to the enormous biodiversity of our products.”
